Two years ago today we were blessed with the amazing opportunity to experience parenthood! It was 4 days after my due date, and I woke up just before 6:00 am and discovered my water was leaking a little bit. Shortly thereafter, the contractions started up. We waited an hour or so as they grew stronger and more consistent. I called my mom to ask her some questions and then called the on-call doctor since it was a Sunday morning. We were told to come to the hospital, and around 9:30 am we were checked in and well on our way to meeting our firstborn!
Things couldn't have gone much more smoothly. Contractions grew stronger, I progressed well, and at 5:45 pm Talmage came into the world. We were immediately surprised with how tough he was. He came out with hardly a cry--more like a few grunts of general discomfort--and as they held him up for me to see that first glorious time, his eyes were already pried open, darting around to take in his new surroundings.
A team of specialists immediately whisked him away since there had been meconium in the amniotic fluid and they needed to check for complications. But after 5 or 10 minutes, they brought our beautiful, healthy baby back into the room and laid him in my arms--one of the most amazing experiences of my life.
Our time in the hospital seems a little surreal as I think back on it. The nurses were constantly coming and going, continual shots and tests were being given, and through it all I marveled over and over at the fact that I was a mother! I honestly enjoyed giving birth to Talmage and I am incredibly anxious to be able to experience that miracle again. Happy birthday to our sweet little Talmage!
