It was my birthday on June 13! Sam is incredibly thoughtful, and he made the day fantastic. First, when I woke up, I discovered a delightful book he had made that went through the events of the last year, ending by saying we were going to review that year throughout the day. Our first date was on June 14, so it really had been almost exactly one year since we had been together!
Well, our first date was to the Clark Planetarium, where we watched a documentary about a mountain climber in the IMAX theatre. So Sam surprised me with tickets to the planetarium, and after a lunch of chicken garlic alfredo pizza and garlic bread he made for us, we were off to Salt Lake!
This time the feature film was:
Here we are with our 3-D glasses on, waiting for the movie to start!
The movie was great! It was bizarre to watch and see sea lions frolicking right in front of your face and bubbles surrounding you-it was the most realistic 3-D movie I had ever seen! After the movie, we stayed and played a little bit.
Here is Sam visiting Mars!
And then I went to the moon.
Sam was very good at the True/False space trivia game!
We also got to be weather people on TV!
Here you can see Sam's weight on Jupiter! Wow! I'll refrain from posting mine...
After our fun at the planetarium, we started home. However, after a few miles on the freeway, an incredible downpour began! (Well, incredible for Utah, anyway.) It was like driving underwater...very unsafe! So we pulled off the freeway and took a little nap in the parking lot of a golf course while we waited for the rain to ease up a bit. We got back on the freeway a while later and were glad we had decided to stop when we saw all of the police cars and ambulances attending to the accidents dotting the road.
We got home and Sam hurriedly started making me a birthday cake.
What a great birthday! Sam devoted his labors to me the entire day. He also got me Steven Kapp Perry's "Come to the House of the Lord," which is one of my favorite compilations of music. It is beautiful! About 5 years ago, I left my CD at an activity and never found it again. A few months ago, I told Sam the story and told him how sad I was about it. So he replaced it for me! I have been listening to it a LOT since then. :)
I also really appreciated the thoughtfulness of other family members. Thanks to everyone for a great birthday!!!

My sister and brother-in-law invited us to go to Beauty and the Beast at the Scera Shell with them! This is an open air theatre where people can bring blankets and sit out on a hill which surrounds a stage. It was fun to go! The coolest part was that the stage was made of books which moved around and opened up to become more scenery! It was a very clever use of scenery.
Here I am with my sister-she is having a baby boy also and is due on September 19!
Here is a look at the cool stage.

While we were dating, Sam and I liked to do our homework together. However, due to the fact that our apartments both tended to get somewhat noisy and distracting, we needed to find another place to work. We chose the laundromat that was across the street! Not only was this place seldom busy with other people, we got to do our homework to the Captain America theme song that would emit from one of the video games about every 5 minutes! :)
Here is Sam on one such evening, prior to our marriage.
Here I am, wearing Sam's coat he would always wrap me up in.
So we actually celebrated Sam's birthday on the 25th of May, rather than the 26th, since the 25th was Memorial Day and we had the day off of school/work. How did we spend the evening of the 26th (his actual birthday)?
Doing laundry, at the very place from which we have so many memories!
Sam is being dignified.
I am not.
I wonder if once the pressures of school let up we'll still get a kick out of very simple things like giant dryers...

On May 26, it was Sam's 24th birthday! Our celebration wasn't anything too fancy, since he was covered in organic chemistry homework all day, but we managed to get a little bit of fun in!
First, we made a return to a place we would frequent when we were dating: Provo's Bicentennial Park. Sam took me on a picnic there when we were dating, and we returned several times. So, I prepared a lunch of black bean burgers (our food of choice on our picnics), and we were off! I told Sam to close his eyes, and then I guided him over to our picnic spot by a quiet little pond.
Here's our picnic!
After our lunch, we played Mancala!
Then we went home, and I made Sam's birthday cake. I pulled it out of the oven, poured the glaze on it, and I was so excited to make it a birthday cake that I stuck the candles in right away. I failed to realize that the inside of the cake was hot, however...hot enough to MELT the bottoms off of the candles! After about 2 minutes they all started toppling over! I was confused until I pulled a candle out and realized all the wax was gone from the bottom, infused in the cake!
Here is a picture I took after attempting to repair it. After this, I decided to stick the cake in the refrigerator and repair it after it cooled down and the candles hardened again!
We had a birthday dinner complete with party hats and a silly joke book! (My personal favorite is: What kind of clothing does a city wear? Outskirts!)
Here is the birthday boy, feeling pretty stressed and worn out by this point-can you see his tired eyes?
Sam requested Thai Curry. I had never made it before, but I went to the Asian food supply store, and they outfitted me with such interesting ingredients as fish paste, tamarind, and coconut milk in order to make it! Even though it kind of looks like dog food, it actually turned out to be pretty good!
Refrigerating the cake worked! Here's Sam blowing out his candles, which are now upright. What you can't see is that every piece of cake had a hardened section of candle wax in it...
And here's the birthday boy with his presents! Two packages of socks, some pencils, some markers, a stapler...yep, mostly practical items. I guess that's how birthdays work when you're a college student! We did, however, spice it up with a some of his favorite candy bars and his favorite board game!
It was such a fun day!

Here are some pictures from the ultrasound I had on May 20! It was so fun to see our baby moving around on the screen, to look at the heart, and to find out the gender! It's a boy!!!
We were able to see him bring up his little tiny hand to his cheek and start rubbing around up there, and then he started making a bunch of sucking/chewing movements that were absolutely adorable! I told Sam he is taking after him because he's already practicing how to eat...:)

A few weeks ago, Sam picked me up from work, and as we got into the car he said, "We're not going where you think we're going." He then had me close my eyes, and we were off.
About 20 minutes later, the car stopped, he got out and got something, got back in, and drove for about 2 more minutes. He then had me get out of the car, and he led me over to sit on some grass and open my eyes. This is what I saw:
We were on the front lawn of the Mt. Timpanogos temple, where we were married! Sam was holding a book our photographer had prepared for us of all of our wedding pictures (which was what he stopped and picked up on the way), and we got to sit on the lawn and look through our pictures, remembering that wonderful day. I don't know how he comes up with these amazing ideas!
And the flowers were absolutely exquisite!
So was the sky.
It seemed like every time we tried to take a picture we were staring straight into the sun...
What a fun surprise for me! I love this guy!
