How We Know What Love Is

A couple of months ago,
Talmage came home from school and told me that he had been feeling sad at school.
His sweet teacher asked him what was wrong (because he was "moping," in his words),
and then told him that she knew of something that could help him feel better.
She shared with him that the mother of a little boy in his class had passed away a couple of days prior
and that he could be especially kind to that boy.

I was grateful for his wise teacher's advice
but my heart simultaneously broke for his classmate.
A few days later it was Valentine's Day.
Talmage came home with the usual loot:
colorful cards decorated with cartoon characters, stickers, obnoxious toys, and way too much candy.
But tucked in the midst of all the red and pink was a simple paper Valentine from the boy who had just lost his mom.
"This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us. 1 John 3:16" I read, my emotions welling up to the surface inside me.

I was so touched by this mourning family's faith and their willingness to share it with the world.
Truly, Jesus Christ is the greatest example of love
and His Atoning Sacrifice and Resurrection bring us hope to overcome despair.
How grateful I am for my Savior.

  1. That is so sad, and so sweet! I'm impressed with the teacher's wisdom. Thanks for posting! :)
