Simple Gifts

When I look at happy moments in my life,
I find that typically, the times I am happiest are not in moments of grandeur
but rather in moments of simple joy.

Today the simple things that brought me such exhilarating happiness were
blue skies and sunshine,
a gentle breeze,
swinging,
helping little boys disassemble and reassemble chairs just for fun,
fresh, frozen-strawberry orange juice,
Lincoln learning to count,
birds singing in the tree in our backyard,
the smell of freshly cut grass and fertilizer,
simple storybooks,
and lots of giggles.

They're small, they're simple...
but they make me feel as though I am dancing through life.

Speaking of swinging, isn't it the best feeling?
I feel almost like a kid again when I swing as high as I can.
One of my earliest memories is from when I was a small child,
swinging as high as my dad could push me in the tire swing hanging from my grandparents' willow tree.
One of the best dates Sam and I ever had was when I was pregnant with Talmage,
and we found an empty park and started swinging as high as we could and had contests
to see who could kick their shoe off the highest while swinging.
We laughed so hard!!

I love discussing ideas and dreams with Sam to create wonderful family memories.
In addition to a library with a spindly spiral staircase leading up to a reading room with 2 full walls of windows,
the greatest treehouse ever,
a small orchard,
a huge garden,
and lots of big trees...
I sure hope swings are a central part of our home someday.

    1. No way!! Wish we could hang out as well...and that your sense for fashion, design, and decorating could wear off on me! I'll just try to keep learning from your beautiful pics on your blog. :)

  2. It appears that you and I draw pleasure from the same things, Kaitlyn. It is when I am able to be outside and am surrounded by the sweet scents of my jasmine, fresh cut grass, listening to the many different songs of the birds, feeling a cool breeze on my face, and looking up towards heaven and talking with my Heavenly Father, that I feel at peace. I also feel the sweetness of Father's love in those moments. I was also a fan of swinging and even made use of the swing on the farm in Idaho. The child in me resurfaced as I would lay back and look at the clouds as my head swooped close to the ground and my feet pointed towards the sky. In my memories of being in heaven, next to spending time with Father and Jesus, the very things that I enjoyed most are these same, simple things that bring me pleasure here. I believe that is why our soul sings quietly as we experience the same things that we did when in heaven.

    1. Some people think of Heaven as clouds, or all white, or something really majestic...but I love thinking of Heaven as all of my favorite beauties of nature together!

  4. I've heard of a few people who have actually put swings inside of their house because they love them so much. I loved seeing these pictures of the boys, and I, too, think a library or reading room with huge windows would be amazing. Thanks for posting.

    1. One of Sam's relatives has swings hanging from a large beam across the ceiling in the living room for her grandchildren. I thought it was the coolest thing! :)
